No floral foam

Designing without the use of harmful florist’s foam

Floral foam is made of plastic and is non-biodegradable. It is used in huge amounts every year by florists, and after a single use, ends up in landfill or waterways. It also contains known carcinogens.

I decided from the start to learn other ways of designing, such as working with chicken wire and moss, and to steer clear of floral foam altogether. It seems too much of a contradiction to celebrate the beauty of nature through flowers, whilst simultaneously damaging our planet.

Not using floral foam requires thinking outside the box, and stretches my creative thinking. It also allows me, and you too, to feel completely satisfied and at peace with the end result, knowing it isn’t creating waste and causing damage to the environment.
